Original and in nice un-touched condition circa late 1920's U.S. M1902 Army Officer's sword owned and ID'd to WWII Major General Paul A. Gavan (1903-1979). Major General Gavan operations officer and chief of staff of the U.S. Army's "Americal Division" was awarded the Silver and Bronze Star medals for valor on Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands during WWII. Major General Gavan also served during the Korean War before retiring in from the Army in 1963. The sword remains in very nice condition and was owned by U.S. Army MG Gavan since he graduated from West Point in 1928. The sword was retailed from Reed's Bros. in Philadelphia and is so marked on the ricasso. The sword is also engraved with the the standard U.S. patriotic motif found on these swords and also engraved with his name "P. A. GAVAN". The sword also has intact its original leather sword knot. The scabbard is original to the blade, remains un-dented, and has most of its original plated finish remaining intact. Overall a great example of a named WWII General Officer's sword. Absolutely 100% lifetime guaranteed to be original.
